Show 67 - Stout Beer Show
We had a huge selection of Stout beers waiting for us to imbibe. Stouts... dark roasty goodness. All were very dark, accoring to the style guidelines, but thats where the similarities ended. There is great diversity in the stout beer style - from the English session stouts to the «over the top» American stouts. Our samplings were in the «over the top» end of the spectrum.
On our preshow «liver stretching exercise video» we sampled a Dogfish Head World Wide Stout, courtesy of BuBBy, Supreme Dictator of the World, cohost of the Brain Gravy podcast and administrator for the TikiBarTV UserPlane site. Thanks BuBBy!
What? There is no video?!!! Opps! Okay, we had one of those infamous technical glitches... the video isn't available. We very much enjoyed the beer though.
Our neighbor Mike joins us. He jumped right in and did a great job - we're truly fortunate to have so many beer enthusiasts within walking distance to the studio!!
We have a great interview with the winner of the The Blues Foundation International Blues Challenge that was held here in Memphis on Beale Street, February 1-3rd. The first prize went to Sean Carney Band from the Columbus Blues Alliance. Sean also took the Albert King Award for best guitarist and was also the Best Dressed!!
We begin a discussion on Moving to Kegging that will be of great interest to homebrewers. It's a very technical topic, so a post was added to the site. Click the text above to read all about it. Video to follow!
Add some beer news from Rick Lyke, some really excellent music and you have a show! A stout beer show to be precise.
Beers we sampled this show...
- Dogfish Head World Wide Stout
- Old Dominion Brewing Co. Dominion Oak Barrel Stout
- BrewBubba's Kentucky Breakfast Stout (22% ABV)
- Lost Coast 8 Ball Stout
- ReaperAle Mortality Stout
- AleSmith Speedway Stout
You know the drill. You wanna listen? Just click here.

Another great show and glad you enjoyed the Breakfast Stout! (or at least I'm glad you talked it up good!)
Keep brewing,

Hey guys, I wanted to say I had a great time tasting the Stouts the other night. The Breakfast Stout was especialy tasty. I look forward to more shows and some road trips like we discussed. I talked to my designated driver and she is up to it. She is also going to work on the Ground Zero trip, I will keep ya posted. Rick, I can't wait to get a sip out of the keg.
Take care,
Mike

Guys, I just want to thank you for your faithfulness in producing this podcast. I've subscribed to a lot of podcasts that were good for six or eight episodes and then went into severe remission.
That's about the amount of time it takes a podcaster to realize how much f'ing work is involved in keeping one going for the long haul.
Anyway, thanks for putting the work into these shows. They're a ton of fun to listen to.
And I hope you both turn this into a ba-zillion dollar podcast media empire.
You're on the right track.

Brewed for Lent, great idea. I need to do that for next year.
Ditto Marcus.

Great show once again boys, all the beers sounded great! I love the Reaper Ales unfortunately they lost their contract brewer and are now out of business until they find some cash to brew their own beers. I was thinking of kegging right away but I think I will take baby steps!

I have to say, you nailed it right on the head with Guinness, and the misconception that it's a «heavy» beer. It's anything but. It always cracks me up when you offer someone a Guinness or a Murphy's and they go «Oh no! Nothing that strong!» Then they have an ESB or IPA, that tends to be higher in alcohol and (in some cases) deeper in flavor.
Welcome to the Keg Club, Rick! Your life is about to change forever. You're going to love how much easier homebrewing is about to become (if you haven't already). I still bottle-condition from time to time, but kegging has made the turn around time on batches so much quicker.
Great to hear those 2006 stats on the craft brew market. World domination, fellas. Oh, and I think I'll pass on the tomato beer. I'm all for creativity in brewing, but c'mon. Enough already.
One thing I can say about Britney Spears - at least the carpet matches the drapes now. What a koo-koo bird. Oh, and didn't you call the Paris Hilton thing? She just got busted for driving with a suspended license, and they towed her Bentley.
Isn't that the strangest thing about Jack Daniels? They can make whiskey there, but you have to drive to another county to drink it. How backwards is that? We need to do away with dry counties, and blue laws. I used to think it was just a Southern thing until I learned about the evil empire that is Utah.
Hey, for the record - a drop of blue food coloring in a pint of Warsteiner makes for an OK St. Patty's Day beverage. 😀
Very nice show, guys. Content rich, as always.
