Show 38 - BBQ Beer Fest Show (part 1)

Superbowl of SwineWe are back from the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Contest and the Smokers Anonymous team! Join us for interviews of the team, some Stone IPA and Arrogant Bastard, gang signs, bluegrass, piercings and popsicles. Beer and barbecue is our thing in May!

Beers we sampled during the recording session... (only click these links if you are not a fizzy yellow beer drinking ninny here under false pretenses.)

Thanks to Kirk and Vaco Enterprises, we had a keg of yummy beer (German style maibock) to drink at the festival...

Thanks to the TKE's at Planet Barbeque for sharing this fantastic hoppy beer!

I can't believe I'm listening to bluegrass versions of my favorite songs and yet I'm enjoying it. wtf is wrong with me?

I signed up for the Memphis in May mailing list so maybe i can get the mrs. to roadtrip with me next year. You guys got a sweet hookup down there and free Rogue... DAMN! I thought you guys had the IPA not the Pale Ale from Stone?

So what exactly is in this Goombay Smash?

good job as always!

I know what you mean Father Spoon, that damn Gin and Juice song is growing on me.

Hey thanks for the catch on the Pale Ale versus IPA. I was wondering why Stone was listing the ABV so low! I knew Jamie read the bottle and it was listed a 6.9%! My bad.

Thanks, as always, for listening!

We watched them make a goombay and it was exactly as I suspected... pineapple juice and an «expletive deleted» load of rum. Very tasty, very lethal.

Again, great job guys! Pale Ale, IPA...it's still from Stone Brewery so it kicks ass either way!

Very entertaining show, guys. Great beer choices once again. That bluegrass rendition of «Gin & Juice» is going to stay with me like luggage. Damn, that was catchy.

You mentioned the very hoppy beer from the TKE tent, Planet BBQ. Here is a bit of the rundown of it from Short's Brewing Co, Bellaire, MI.

Huma-Lupa-Licious I.P.A -Named after the hop flower Humulus Lupulus, this India Pale Ale style beer has enormous amounts of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. With a very complex malt bill, flavors seem to meld with the hops to balance this ale and provide a ridiculous urge to sample more. 2005 Gold Medal Michigan Beer Guide Brewers Cup.

Thanks for the info & for checking the site. Yes, that was an exceptional beer. Even given the late hour and my inebriated state, it stands out in my mind. I can almost taste it now!

Thanks for sharing with us. Hope you like the show.
