Show 55 - New Holland Brewing Company

New Holland Brewing Company Logo You've been hearing a lot about New Holland Brewing Company recently - for good reason! They have some exceptional beers. Many thanks to Fred Bueltmann, Vice President of Sales and Marketing New Holland Brewing Company, for helping us to do a show featuring these beers!

On other topics, we do some name dropping... specifically a send up to the Dudes at Dude Night for their Big Foamy Homebrew Show and the effects of dry rub. A discussion of Graham Sanders of Craft Brewer Radio from the land down under. We talk about «the Floyd» and the making of the Dark Side of the Moon as recommended from BuBBy in the TikiBarTV chat room. And we give special thanks to James Spencer of Basic Brewing Radio for a recent care package he sent.

Yada yada. Okay, really, we get a little goofy and poke fun at ourselves. Our knowledge of history and geography will astound you... or cause you dismay.

Beers we sampled during this show...

  • New Holland Blue Goat Dopplebock
  • New Holland Black Tulip Trippel Ale
  • New Holland Dragons Milk Ale

Tip toe through the tulips and give'r a listen here!

Errata on the Errata:
- Daniel Day Lewis' character in The Last of the Mohicans was Hawkeye (Nathaniel Poe).
- Nigel Powers: All right Goldmember. Don't play the laughing boy. There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I may need your help to locate the brightest, sharpest, cleanest tasting, chillingest, light, golden lager, available somewhere this side of the planet. When it's properly iced up in a springtime mountain stream, it should be absolutely riveting, lightly complex across the palette and sparkling, no! just crackling fresh!
.
I have never been able to quite find this brew and require it for maintenance and sustenance as a fundamental component in my life.
.
Let me know the show when you find it, my holy grail-ers!

Craig, you're right about Golden Earring's «Radar Love». To me the whole album «Moontan» is one continuous song. If I hear «Radar Love» my mind queues up «Candy's Going Bad», then «Vanilla Queen», «Big Tree, Blue Sea» and «Are You Receiving Me». One of those albums I've owned on 8 track, cassette and CD!! Classic Rock & Roll and a candidate for «Where are they now?»

Hey «boys»! Nice show once again.

You know, I've only had a handful of dopplebocks, and the more you guys talk about them, the more I want to explore this style. So delicious.

Regarding microbreweries and bottling - there's a BJ's near here and every now and again, I like to go there for a pint of their Jeremiah Red, which I really like on tap. Well, I guess they decided to bottle that beer and sell it at select locations. A friend of mine gave me a 6-pack of it and it totally sucked. It tasted NOTHING like it did on tap. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and bought another 6-pack. Low and behold, it sucked again. So maybe for some microbreweries, it's a good thing that they don't bottle.

I don't share your appreciation for Graham Sanders. He tends to rip on Americans a little too much. Not that I don't have a sense of humor, but enough's enough. I don't rip on Foster's or VB, so he needs to leave our quadruple IPA's alone! :-)

Oh man, the Dude Night bit was too much. Very funny. Dick, you can call us boys -- we get it. That was brilliantly done, guys. Way to set it up. I guess listening back on it, we did get pretty «Deliverance» towards the end of that. Those rubs were the absolute best.

Dragon's Milk rocks. I love it. I feel lucky to have been able to drink that beer, thanks to Groucho. Usually, you guys are drinking beers that we can't get here. Nice oak in that brew.

Just getting my head wrapped around the whole brining thing. It seems to be the best way to cook birds now.

Have you heard about Chugd.com, the social beer network?

Great show... I even liked the country song at the end! Wow!

Is it just me, or is your audio getting better and better every week? It sounds great! Good job.

That Dragons Milk has been pretty poplular lately. Yours was probably better... Since it was free!

If you do a podcast extra... Make sure to get «drunk and in love» by Too Much Joy. Brilliant drinking/drunk song!

BTW... I have been meaning to ask... Whatever became of that Manatee?

#8. Administrator, 17 years and 3 months ago

Groucho, it's always a pleasure when you stop by! Yes, our audio is getting better every week. The beer studio is becoming a studio with more equipment and mic's every show. Glad you noticed! The Dragons milk was free, but it took a long-time and JeffreyT to intervene to make it happen. Thanks for the music recommendation. I'm not familiar with the song, but we'll look it up.

We lost the manatee. It was never heard from again. Classic isn't it?

Boys (and I mean that in the best sense of the word), glad you liked our beer. My salesman, Isaac, just sent me the link to your podcast and heard your show for the first time. Great stuff! Where can a boy get his hands on that pork rub? Glad you enjoyed the beers as well. I would be happy to discuss any of your questions - and I am sure Fred would as well - regarding our beer or anything else New Holland. Let's keep this in mind though - the best beer is the one in your hand. Dig yourselves and thanks for the support.

Great show guys! It was refreshing to hear some David Allan Coe, I used to be a huge fan of his in my younger drinking days!
