Show 115 - Anniversary Beer Show

WARNING: NSFW. I'm sure you'll figure that out quick enough!

Yes, hard to believe, but we are 3 years old! We celebrate this milestone with the typical third anniversary gift, beer! Not just any beer, but some special homebrew offerings from our friends James Spencer (Basic Brewing), Phil (Clarkehead Brewing) and Craig (BrewBubbas), and a special Avery 15th Anniversary that brings mixed reactions. And a bit of drama written by dood (Rick) adds a dash of culture. Now that you've got the idea, what are you waiting for - go listen!

Beers Consumed this Show:

  • Bourbon Oaked Robust Porter (Craig from BrewBubbas)
  • Amarillo Ale (James Spencer from Basic Brewing)
  • Belgian Brunette (James Spencer from Basic Brewing)
  • Vanilla Porter (James Spencer from Basic Brewing)
  • Clarkeweizen (Phil from Clarkehead/My Life as a Foodie)
  • Black Cat Stout (Phil from Clarkehead/My Life as a Foodie)
  • Avery 15th Anniversary Ale (Avery, duh)

Happy Birthday, Big Foamy Head! Three years later, do you have any idea the total number of beers you've tasted on your show? I'm thinking it's got to be well over 500.

Glad you enjoyed my Clarkeweizen. I appreciate the kind words. I only bottled that one in plastic so it wouldn't break in your luggage. Those Smart Water bottles do a pretty good job in a pinch, and the small reservoir at the bottom does a great job of collecting the yeast sediment.

Craig and Spencer's beer both sound fantastic, especially the Bourbon Oaked Robust Porter and Vanilla Porter. I don't have the guts to attempt beers like that any more. Do it right and it's phenomenal. Do it wrong and it's a lost cause. Sounds like those guys have it tuned in. 😀

I'm sure you know by now how I feel about that Hot Dog Eating Competition, so I won't go into it here. This was the first year I actually sat and watched the whole thing, and I was really put off by it.

Had a good laugh listening to this. You guys were on fire! Enjoyed the Beer Haiku too, as always.

Happy Birthday!

500?! I laugh at that number. Ha ha ha. (me laughing) Man, I think we're over the 1000 mark.

I stand corrected. Which is more than I can say for you guys, who are lucky to be standing at all. Holy moses.

Our friend James Spencer sent some notes in about his brews. I took out all the mushy stuff :) :
I just listened to your latest. Congrats on your third anniversary!
I'm glad you enjoyed the beers.

Some details on the brews, which I should have provided. The numbers on the caps were batch numbers. 07-13 was the 13th batch of 2007, for instance. The Amarillo Ale was brewed in October, and the other two were in November.

The Belgian Brunette was around 7.6% ABV, which might have added to the levity. The Porter was no slouch at 6.3%.

BTW, I thought the Avery 15 was a bit too funky for my taste. I don't mind funk, but there was a little aftertaste that reminded me too much of something I don't want to step in, much less put in my mouth. Just don't tell Adam Avery. :-)

Good thing you didn't tell Adam Avery. Better that he should read that here. 😉

Congrats on the 3 years. I about pissed myself when you guys tried to talk Australian. I was drinking an Alpha King at the time. Greasy spoon waitresses was funny too. Good job, now talk about the beer sometime. Fun show.
