Audio Extra - 10th Annual Brewgrass Festival

Join Rick as he and his son enjoy some fantastic beers and listen to some great bluegrass music at the Brewgrass Festival in the Smokey Mountains of Asheville, NC - home of the Biltmore Estates. With 7 hours, 40 breweries, about 3 beers per brewer... the audio gets sloppy towards the end... even after being seriously edited.

This annual event hosted by the Great Smokies Craft Brewers Association and benefiting Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Western North Carolina is one of the most popular beer and bluegrass events in the Southeast.

Our Audio Extra's do not have intro's or outro's or much in the way of transitions between audio segments. This audio extra does feature music from a wonderful artist named RobinElla and the CC String Band. She's a regular in the Knoxville/Asheville music scene, but a new discovery for us.

Show 49 - AleSmith Beer Show

We drink some smooth beers from AleSmith Brewing Company out of San Diego CA and listen to Luther Allison and Duwayne Burnside belt out some great blues. Our preshow sampling put us in great form for this show. Rick does a mild (some would say amateurish) rant. Dick relates his journey to the Annual Cooper-Young festival. Join us as the beer www.namikeystonepa.org/klonopin/ starts talking (yes, we make grandiose plans for the future!) and get some Christmas ideas of a musical nature.

Show 46 - Florida Beer Show

alligatorIn this episode we visit Florida, land of beaches, bikinis and... beer? Yep, we managed to find a bunch of beers that are native to Florida. Longtime listeners will recall a lot of complaining in earlier shows about the lack of creative beer in Florida. Well, we've uncovered some and are gonna share it with you. We also get into part one of a fascinating genre of music known as the Chitlin' Circuit. These are blues, soul and R&B performers still touring and putting out the same types of music from the Stax era. Fantastic stuff from Quinn Golden, Sir Charles Jones, and more. Warning: lots of bitching does occur on this show. We dispute the rumor that we like everything.

As discussed on the show Brokeback Mountain 2 movie poster.

Show 45 - Hops and Homebrews

Join us as we get our hops on. This show features a great selection of hoppy beers, both British and American style IPAs. We talk with our pal James Spencer of Basic Brewing Radio about hops and how they can really make, or break, a beer style. Semi-scary, but beer-related story about Hop Devils (listen with the lights out). Musical guest du jour is Little Milton, a fantastic blues and soul legend. Some more chili discussion ensues, and we have some spicy man-style show snacks to go with our hoppy beers.

Audio Extra - 20th Annual Great Taste of the Midwest

Join Rick as he wanders around the 20th Annual Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison, Wisconsin. This is an annual charitable event held by the Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild on the 2nd Saturday of August. The event features over 100 breweries and over 450 different beers. So many beers, so little time.

No intros, exits or fluff. This is fairly raw audio although I tried to keep the levels fairly consistent. Some of the people are experts, for example the main brewer from Schlafly - Stephen Hale, to your generic uninformed public who's contribution to the podcast was «Woo Hoo!» I also found some of the organizers to get their thoughts on the event. Warning: this show contains some made up facts!

Show 42 - Capital Beer Show

Capital Brewery LogoWe have great beers from Capital Brewery, great music from a legend of blues and rock, Willie Dixon. You may not be familiar with him, but you know his work. We also talk with Kirby Nelson, brewmaster from Capital Brewery, and get the inside dope on making beer, growing the brewery, and keeping it an art and not just a job. Plus international shoutouts, drinking and driving (or driving us to drink) and more. A musical, tasty show - enjoy!
